The house locates on the left bank of the Danshui River, one of the main streams in Taipei. Rivers are the origins of civilizations and life, cultivating human behaviours and connecting interactions. As the residence owns an incredible view and a strong bond with the river, it boosts us to bring the notion of the stream into the modernized home, where natural, rich materials come together in an understated, subtle, refined look. 

We reorganized an open plan layout that simulated the trajectory of mainstream and tributary, creating various framed scenes distinguished from day and night and reflecting the beauty in four seasons for the occupants. 

Instead of portraying bright and transparent imagery of the water surface in the interior, we adopted the perspective of diving beneath it and exploring deeply. The catalysis of carefully selected elements, followed by the direction of lights, and the extension and superimposition of shades and shadows lead people to a subdued, tranquil mood. In Buddhist philosophy, people are more likely to open up wisdom and observe their true selves under that state of mind. 

The bespoke working table and kitchen islands are like art installations, symbolizing different stages of rocks washed by water. The hollowed-out oval silhouette combines eastern ideology that uses emptiness to replace solidity, meaning the true virtue of humbleness and gentle tolerance between nature and people, people and people.

Incorporating the ancient practice of Feng Shui, a moving stone wall harmonizes residents with their surroundings. Also, it creates flexibility in adjusting the impact of natural light. We aim to seek a solution that makes life fun and steady among the boundaries of modernity and tradition. 

To emphasize the spacious qualities, the corridors within are not just passages. Through the contrast of size, people tend to feel openness when stepping out of the aisle. Besides, it gives a strong sense of ritual where minds are comforted and relieved once passing by. 

The interior of the Riverside Abode and external environments appear to be parallel yet well integrated with attention to every detail, all together promoting rich sensory experiences in this remodelled space.
